A Brief History of Low-Key Hideaway
in Cedar Key, Florida

Nestled on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico, Low-Key Hideaway has long been a hidden gem in the heart of Cedar Key, Florida. Originally operating as a classic roadside motel, the property served as a quiet stop for travelers seeking Old Florida charm, simple pleasures, and waterfront views.

Over the years, the site evolved into more than just a place to stay—it became a destination. In the early 2000s, it was revitalized by new owners who infused it with creativity and a laid-back vibe that resonated with both locals and travelers alike. It was during this time that the Tiki Bar was introduced—a small, quirky, open-air bar built with reclaimed materials and coastal flair that quickly became legendary for its sunsets, eclectic decor, and welcoming atmosphere.

As word of mouth spread, Low-Key Hideaway transformed from a modest motel into a beloved community hangout. It hosted artists, musicians, road-trippers, and dreamers from all walks of life, creating memories around campfires, live music, and one-of-a-kind sunsets.

In recent years, under the care and leadership of current owner Scott Larsen, Low-Key Hideaway has grown into a unique 21+ adventure RV resort, offering waterfront RV sites, expanded bar service, live entertainment, airboat and sunset tours, and a growing reputation for local hospitality. Even after enduring major storms like Hurricane Helene, the Hideaway has remained resilient—rebuilding with purpose and preserving its quirky, coastal soul.

Today, Low-Key Hideaway stands as a symbol of Cedar Key’s spirit: relaxed, resilient, and always welcoming. Whether you're stopping in for a drink, staying for the weekend, or just catching a sunset—you’ll find a piece of Old Florida, and maybe a piece of yourself, right here.
